The Captains...
The 'Captains' original was an idea borne of many things, from Manchester United having won the UEFA Champions League Cup 3 times, to a strong family connection with Manchester and avid fans of the team. The whole process took 3 months to complete and was going great with the support I was getting from the Man U advertising and marketing team. But it was UEFA that put the dampers on my project as I hadn't asked their permission to paint the cup. Although I was stopped from going to print, they gave me permission to sell the original to a private buyer. So this is a unique, one and only piece of history of Manchester United memorabilia that will one day find its true home!
Its a large piece measuring 34" x 27" with lots of fine detail in the completed portrait. There is an album that will go to the buyer documenting each stage and the reference photographs used. There wasn't an image of Bobby Charlton facing the way I needed him, so I had to re-do him looking inwards. Not as easy as it seems.
The artwork is fixed and protected behind the latest technology in clear view UV glass so the image will not fade, tarnish or worsen with age. The frame is of an Italian wood mould with matching slip and acid free mount.
A lot of work went into this project and I've kept it in the wings for the last 8 years. I believe it is time to find this baby a new owner!
The final image has watermarks on it as its a case of not letting this image out on its own.
